I'm still pretty new to Linux. I mostly use Mac OS X. But I'm playing with Ubuntu now and I'm very impressed.

I'm Linux user. Been using Fedora for ages, but later switched to Kubuntu and recently Ubuntu. Used to use Windows XP and now sometimes I still use Vista (dual boot with Ubuntu on my laptop) but there's still been some magnet that took me back to Linux. :) Maybe that freedom? ;)

can any recommend any open source apps or code they have done? Also any tips or tricks, that anyone would like to share with everyone?

I currently use Mac OS X, but before I bought my MacBook I used purely Linux at home on my desktop PC (RIP). I was using Slackware since 1999 but switched to Ubuntu starting with Hoary Hedgehog (5.04).

I've done some development work (with my day job) using Red Hat Linux 9.0 and Monta Vista Linux (embedded software) for mobile phones.

Honestly, if it wasn't for my previous experience with Linux my transition to Mac OS X won't be as smooth. The Unix roots may have been the most telling factor.

The most unforgettable experience I had with Linux was my problem with the proprietary nVidia drivers. It froze my screen once in a while. It was a few months later (after a lot of trial and error and forum browsing) when i found out that an option added to xorg.conf would solve the problem! :)

I'm using Mac OS X nowadays after I bought my MacBook, but before that I use solely Linux on my desktop machine (RIP).

I've used a lot of Linux distros but mainly I used Slackware since 1999 and then switched to Ubuntu Hoary Hedgehog (5.04) around 2005.

I've previously developed embedded systems using Red Hat Linux and Monta Vista Linux to be used for mobile phones (my day job).

One unforgettable experience I had with Linux was with the proprietary nVidia drivers (I had a GeForce4 MX440 GPU). Loading it using the installer script caused my computer to freeze after some time. A few months later (after much trial and error and scouring forums everywhere), I found out a fix which needed some settings to be added to xorg.conf.

Imagine how delighted I am to be able to play TuxRacer and play YouTube videos without the choppiness! :)
