The Economy and Tech

Well needless to say the economy has everyone hard and hard on a global way. Different countries have been reporting problems left and ride, even the field of IT and Services that are IT centeric. An more companies are looking for free and or open source alternatives to ease the already tight budgets. Companies are looking at such applications like Vertualbox and VMware server to run More then one Operating System on less hardware. Also a few companies are even making the big switch to Linux and or Unix based operating systems. An many new technologies are coming out so rapidly, that some companies are taking advantage of these new technologies. One in particular is a new file system developed by Sun Microsystems called ZFS. Which will be in the Apple Inc Servers and rumors are going around that it will trickle down to Apples Desktops and Laptops.

Also ZFS will be showing up in a few "nix" operating systems, the Linux kernel will have read capabilities and several Unix operating systems will have full ZFS. Some distributions that will have ZFS is FreeNAS (a fork of FreeBSD a Unix based Operating System, that deals with with Network Attatched Storage), now going back to th e economy. An also users are taking a big hit too, finding themselves with less money coming into the household, so looking to free and open source software only makes sense. Even if you just pay for a close source operating systems like Windows or Apple anyone can load up their computers with free and open source programs, like for example openoffice, firefox, thunderbird and the list goes on.

Basic programming with Dr Scheme

Many view programming as either useless, or too complex to worry about. Learning to program, if only its basic aspects, greatly improves our mathematical cognitive abilities. For those looking to start younger children in the mathematical methods of programming, we recommend Dr Scheme, which is an interactive, integrated, graphical programming environment for the PLT Scheme programming language. We'll post a graphical introduction sometime in the future, along with some more practical posts, such as taking advantage of the many other learning resources out on the web. Stay tuned, while we help you to take advantage of your computer and the many wonders it brings, one article at a time.

social connections

Well you maybe asking yourself what or why is social connections are important over the Internet. Well like in real life our world revolves around some kind of social interaction. An with the Internet it's none the less important, just the communication is different. The Internet is a powerful tool not only on a personal level, but on a business level too. A good friend of mine named Shashi did a demonstration on this and I would like for you all to take a look, an to show you the many possibilities for it. The following link shows the power of social connections. He demonstrates how using social media of the internet can be used on so many levels. It's a way to educate people on how use the services that are on the Internet (which are many), but to properly utilize those services.

Python the real story... (briefly)

Python is a development language, that is of course open source. But as I found out, not many people know about it. So I started asking around for users of it to give a description of it and how it's used, plus some tips and tricks on using it to any interested new users.

Python has many advantages like web development, programing, scripting and many more. Another advantage is, it can operate on multiple platforms; like Windows, Mac, Linux and so on. Also something that I personally like is you can make great source code for it, which means with some modifications to the source code; you can have it operate on different platforms.

The community is very active and there are several sites you can go too, for help in learning python, even some Linux user groups and other IT groups of different kinds that cover python.

Are you aware of the different Operating Systems available?

Over in the Jaiku branch of this club, an interesting conversation sprang up around the advantages of Windows vs Linux. Now, many people quite obviously know about Windows, it permeating the computer world so heavily, but few have been exposed to Linux. Linux is a free operating system licensed under the GNU GPL, and as such called GNU/Linux, which is based around the Linux core with several GNU tools used to help it function. There are several different desktop environments, all of which are incredibly customizable, so no matter if you're a Windows or Mac user, you can feel right at home in it. Here's a funny little video which might explain this in a format which many are already familiar with (Mac ads). Don't forget to browse the conversation through the link posted above and join in on the conversation over at Jaiku. If you need a Jaiku account, head on over to Jaiku Invites and request one, or request one directly from Jaiku.
